Perchlorsyre

Perchlorsyre er en ætsende supersyre. Når det opvarmes eller stærkt koncentreret, har det kraftige oxiderende egenskaber og danner potentielt eksplosive blandinger med organiske forbindelser. Fås i forskellige reagenskvaliteter og bruges til at fremstille perkloratsalte.

Dens oxiderende kraft øges med koncentration og temperatur. Opvarmet over 150 °C reagerer det voldsomt med organisk materiale og kan forårsage eksplosioner. Monohydratet af perchlorsyre (85%) er et godt oxidationsmiddel ved stuetemperatur.

Perchlorsyre er flygtig og ætsende for metaller og væv, og lukkede beholdere, der indeholder syren, kan briste voldsomt ved længere tids udsættelse for varme. I sin vandfri form kan perchlorsyre eksplodere spontant, og koncentrerede former er ustabile. Andre farer omfatter:

Perkloratkrystaller er eksplosive, og detonation kan forekomme ved varme, flamme, friktion, percussion eller en anden kemisk reaktion. Noget så lille som blæsermotorens vibration kan forårsage en voldsom reaktion. Heldigvis opløses perkloratsalte i vand, og vand neutraliserer perchlorsyre.
