SCBA Facepieces
SCBA Facepieces
Tight-fitting facepieces (also referred to as full facemasks) are one of the main components of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) systems. Facepieces feature head strap harnesses constructed of a para-aramid material and are designed specifically to protect against heat, flames, smoke, and debris while enabling the user to see clearly. Facepieces may also be equipped with a head-up-display (HUD) feature, which allows easy monitoring of the cylinder contents and battery status without any manual action by the wearer. Typical facepieces are constructed of rubber or silicone with polycarbonate lenses for high optical clarity, impact protection, and thermal resistance. Facepiece sizes range from small to extra large and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires fit testing prior to initial use and at least on an annual basis thereafter.
