Natriumtripolyfosfat bruges til blødgøring af vand, kraftig stofvask, automatisk opvask, borevæskerensning og flydende kvægfodertilskud. Det bruges også som et peptiserings-, emulgerings-, dispergeringsmiddel og som en hydrogenperoxidopløsningsstabilisator. Det fungerer som et konserveringsmiddel til fisk og skaldyr, kød, fjerkræ og dyrefoder. Den finder anvendelse som en polyanion-tværbinder i polysaccharidbaseret lægemiddellevering. Desuden bruges det som tætningsmiddel til utætte gårddamme og et calcium- og magnesiumchelateringsmiddel. Ud over dette bruges det i keramik, lædergarvning, flammehæmmere, papirmassefremstilling, papirbelægninger, tekstilbearbejdning, malmflotation, anti-korrosionspigmenter og gummiproduktion.
