  • Pyridine is a synthetic intermediate in laboratory and industry.
  • Its weakly basic nature allows it to act as a proton acceptor in acid base reactions, and to form salts with strong acids.
  • In the acylation of alcohols, pyridine can act as a nucleophilic catalyst.
  • Various reports have described the use of pyridine to prepare such compounds as indanones, 2 cyclopentenones, polycarbonates, symmetric aromatic trisulfides and tetrasulfides, and calcium-η 2-pyrazolato complexes.
