Kaliumthiocyanat, 0,1N standardiseret opløsning anvendes i analytisk kemi til kvantitativ bestemmelse af Fe(III). I Volhards metode bruges den til at bestemme koncentrationen af chloridion ved titrering. Det bruges også som en analysator til direkte og kontinuerlig måling af koncentrationen af opløseligt kobber i en vandig opløsning.
