Kaliumsulfat bruges til fremstilling af gødning (dvs. giver kalium og svovl), kaliumalun, kaliumcarbonat og glas. I analytisk kemi bruges det til bestemmelse af nitrogen ved Kjeldahl metode og protein i fødevarer. Det bruges også i de elektrostatiske virkninger på pKa-værdier af aminosyrerester i stafylokokkenukleasen. Det bruges til adskillelse af protein gennem elektroforese og fungerer også som et laboratoriereagens.
