Det bruges som en katalysator til den kemoselektive fremstilling af cykliske og acykliske dithioacetaler. Det bruges til at fremstille lanthanaluminat (LAO) tynde film, LaF 3 nanokrystaller og bis(indolyl) methaner fra indoler.
