ELISA

Progranulin er forstadiet til Granulin, også kaldet Proepithelin og PC-celle-afledt vækstfaktor. Spaltning af signalpeptidet producerer modent granulin. Både Granulin og mindre spaltningsprodukt af Granulin regulerer cellevækst. Progranulin stimulerer proliferation af mange epitelceller, fremmer deres forankringsuafhængig vækst og giver, når det overudtrykkes, epithelial tumorigenicitet. Progranulin/epithelingenet er multifunktionelt med vigtige konstitutive roller i epitelial homeostase, reproduktiv, immunologisk og neuronal funktion. Progranulin udtrykkes konstitutivt i en række epitel, især i huden, mave-tarmkanalen og reproduktionssystemet. Progranulin udtrykkes i immunceller in vivo og i specifikke neuroner i hjernen.
