Heparin Sodium Salt, CAS # 9041-08-1, is derived from porcine intestinal mucosa and shows blood anti-coagulant activity. | CAS: 9041-08-1

Heparin sodium salt is used as a blood anti-coagulant. It is also used as an effective inhibitor of mesenchymal cell proliferation. Further, it binds to antithrombin III, which inhibits coagulation proteases. It is used as a major component of serum free media for preventing cell aggregation. It is also used as an anti-cancer agent in in vitro cancer research.

General Description

  • Heparin sodium salt displays anti-coagulant activity. It can also efficiently inhibit mesenchymal cell proliferation and promotes the proliferation of primary epithelial cells
  • This compound can bind to antithrombin III and inhibit coagulation proteases

Applications

  • In in vitro studies, it is used as the main component of serum-free media to prevent cell aggregation
  • Heparin sodium salt can also induce the growth of human embryonic stem cells in a defined serum-free medium, acting as a cofactor for a basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF-2)
  • It is also applied in laboratory studies related to stem cell differentiation and growth
  • In in vitro studies, this compound exhibits cytotoxic action inducing cancer cell death by interfering with transcription factor activity
