Grafitstang bruges i computerbørster, anoder, lysbuelamper, kulstofbelægning, katodestrålerør og moderator i nukleare pæle. Det bruges til digler med høj temperatur, som smøremiddel og i blyblyanter. Grafitstav belagt med Th(IV), spiller en nyttig anvendelse til ionselektiv elektrode baseret på thoriumoxinatkompleks. Det er også vigtigt for fremstillingen af bly(II)-selektiv PVC-belagt grafitstavelektrode.
