NALP9 is a cytoplasmic protein belonging to the NLRP family with a DAPIN domain, three LRR (leucine-rich) repeats and a NACHT domain. Also called NOD6, NALP9 is a novel intracellular protein involved in inflammation and apoptosis. NALP9 may play a regulatory role in the innate immune system as similar family members belong to the signal-induced multiprotein complex, the inflammasome, which activates the pro-inflammatory caspases, caspase-1 and caspase-5.
